Hello Guys and Dolls (see what i did there 😉)
What was the first musical you ever saw?
The first musical i ever saw on stage was Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat when i was 2 or 3. I used to watch the video of Donny Osmond's Joseph quite a lot growing up so my mum was bound to make Joseph my fist stage production to see.
What was your favourite musical growing up?
Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat - once again- because i love the simplicity of the story and the various genres of music - i still do.
Were you ever in a musical?
At school during my A Levels, i performed in the school musicals as ensemble parts (i'm not a brilliant singer). My first musical was Beauty and the Beast where i was an ensemble member and the next year we performed We Will Rock You where i was a Bohemian - we changed pretty much all of the names for the bohemians to be who we wanted to be so i ended up being Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer of Green Day).
What was the first musical you saw on Broadway?
Sadly, i have never been to the Big Apple so i have never seen a production on Broadway - it is on my bucket list!
If you could be any female character in any musical who would you be and why?
Elphaba from Wicked because she is a misunderstood character and had to deal with a lot of taunting and teasing because of the way she looked - because she was different and her character reminds her a bit of me as i always felt very different from everyone else.
Which male character?
Lefou from Beauty and the Beast because he's a sort of voice of reason character but he's also incredibly stupid and funny. He's the most entertaining character in my mind and he doesn't necessarily need to be a good singer - always an advantage for me 😂
Favourite musical song to sing in the shower?
Stars from Les Miserable or When You're Good to Mama from Chicago. (quite a difference in style)
Favorite film adaptation of a musical?
I'm not a big fan of film adaptations of musicals - if they were meant to be on stage keep them on stage. sometimes big songs are cut out or new songs are put in and there are always massive changes from the stage productions.
What do you think is most underrated musical?
Sweeney Todd i think is underrated and i think it's underrated because it's very dark as a musical. Apart from the likes of Phantom and Les Mis a lot of musicals are feel good and Sweeney Todd is the complete opposite. The musical is dark and twisted and compliments the storyline perfectly.
Overrated musical?
Mamma Mia - I can't stand it - the storyline is so peculiar and i can't stand ABBA songs at the best of times but this musical takes the biscuit - it's way too cheesy for me.
What musical made you cry?
Les Miserables
What musical made you laugh?
We Will Rock You
Are there any musicals you saw and hated?
Funny Girl - i like the music from Funny Girl but hate the storyline and i found it dragging when i saw it - i got quite bored throughout. The actors were brilliant and the music is fantastic but the storyline lets it down.
What musical do you want to see as a film?
Like i said before if it's meant to be on stage keep it on stage so there isn't really a musical i want to see as a film.
Which musicals are you dying to see?
Book of Mormon, American Idiot, Lion King, School of Rock and Aladdin.
Any movie or book you think should be turned into a musical?
I can't think of any if im perfectly honest. i would like to see Nightmare before Christmas which is a musical film on the stage that would be good.
What is your all-time favourite musical?
Well you knew this was coming - it still will always be Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat!
